Lesson Structure

Lesson Length
Students can begin with 45-minute or 60-minute lessons.  After a student has been studying for 1 year, they will need to move to a 60-minute lesson.  LPM graduates will need to start with a 60-minute lesson. 75-minute lessons are also available for more advanced students, and may be recommended after a student has studied 5+ years.

Extended Lesson Time
15 minutes of the lesson will be "extended lesson time" where the student will work on the ipad, laptop or digital piano.  They will work on music theory, ear training, and sight reading during this time.

Private Instruction
The remainder of the lesson is private instruction.  The students will be assigned technique exercises and pieces as well as reading pieces and repertoire/ performance pieces.  They will also be assigned written theory assignments.

Group Lessons
6-8 group lessons will be held throughout the year  in addition to regular weekly lessons where students will participate in games and activities designed to reinforce concepts learned in the weekly lessons.  Group lessons also give students an opportunity to have a social experience with piano/ voice lessons.  There will be no private lessons during the group lesson weeks.  The group lesson takes the place of the private lesson on those weeks.

Observing Lessons
Parents are always welcome to observe lessons, but please leave younger children at home.
